| WINNER FIPRESCI Prize: Venice Film Festival 2011 When Miron's beloved wife Tanya passes away, he asks his best friend Aist to help him say goodbye to her according to the rituals of the Merya culture, an ancient Finno-Ugric tribe from Lake Nero, a picturesque region in West-Central Russia. Although the Merya people assimilated into Russians in the 17th century, their myths and traditions live on in their descendants' modern life. The two men set out on a road trip thousands of miles across the boundless lands. With them, two small birds in a cage. Along the way, as is custom for the Meryas, Miron shares intimate memories of his conjugal life. But as they reach the banks of the sacred lake where they will forever part with the body, he realises he wasn't the only one in love with Tanya... (Russian. English subtitles)

YOGAWOMAN is a groundbreaking film that captures this fascinating time of awakening female power. Yoga was brought to the west from India by a lineage of male teachers. Now there’s a generation of women who are leading the way. They’re strong they’re inspiring and they’re radically changing peoples lives. From the busy streets of Manhattan to the dusty slums of Kenya YOGAWOMAN uncovering a global phenomenon that has changed the face of yoga forever. A quiet revolution brews in yoga studios, hospitals, and living rooms around the globe: In record numbers, women are discovering their own strength, vitality, peace, and power through yoga. Reclaiming this ancient spiritual path from its traditionally male form, the result is a radical transformation of modern yoga, as we know it. Led by a new generation of dynamic female teachers, this “new” yoga replaces the male-centered, rigid style with a distinctly feminine practice that honors intuition, family, flow, connection, community, activism, and the cyclical nature of women’s lives. One of the drivers (Emma Booth) is shaken but not hurt, while the other lies dead - leaving a briefcase full of money without an owner. Despite his best intentions, Colin quickly finds himself drawn into a deadly game of survival, where no one is quite what they seem.

The New York Times Critics’ Pick ANTON CHEKHOV’S “THE DUEL” breathes new life into a classic Chekhovian tale. Working with the master cinematographer Paul Sarossy (The Sweet Hereafter), director Dover Kosashvili (Late Marriage) has made a gorgeously cinematic and accessible movie that is sensuous, passionate, dramatic and peppered with delightful moments of levity inherent to the great novella. Set in a seaside resort in the Caucasus, the story centers on n'er do well, Laevsky (Andrew Scott) and his illicit relationship with his mistress Nadya (Fiona Glascott). Laevsky has convinced Nadya to leave her husband for him, but now wants to abandon her. A brilliant ensemble cast of British and Irish actors strikes just the right balance. “The performances are excellent all around, with Andrew Scott mesmerizing and the gorgeous Fiona Glascott making vividly clear why her character drives all men to distraction.” (Hollywood Reporter) |

Jacky Bonnot (Michael Youn) is an aficionado of haute cuisine. He is self-taught, very talented but stubborn. Star chef Alexandre Lagarde (Jean Reno) is in serious conflict with Stanislas Matter, the new CEO of the group that owns his restaurant, ‘Cargo Lagarde’. Matter is plotting to have him lose one star in the next edition of the Guide, and therefore to replace him with a young “modern” chef who advocates a chemical, molecular cuisine which is more profitable for the food industry.
Matter begins by laying off members of Lagarde’s team, one by one. Worse yet, Lagarde has run out of ideas for future creations for his new menu which the Guide’s critics will soon be coming to taste and judge.
Alexandre is desperately looking for an assistant to help him manage the restaurant’s two daily sittings. Then one day, as luck would have it, he meets Jacky. |

| Written and directed by Nadine Labaki, this heart-warming modern fable follows Labaki's impressive directorial debut Caramel. Set in a small, isolated Lebanese village, a group of Muslim and Christian women band together to ingeniously devise a plan to distract the local menfolk in an attempt to defuse mounting inter-religious tensions. Most days, the women gather at the cafe of feisty Christian widow Amal (Labaki) to work on joint projects and share gossip and song. These resourceful women, of all ages, shapes and sizes, united by their unwavering friendship, try almost every means at their disposal. As a series of chaotic incidents tests the women's ingenuity, can they manage, with their usual sass, to successfully stave off the fall-out from the distant war? Extraordinarily inventive and often comical, Where Do We Go Now? received a five minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere, and won the Audience Award at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival. |
