Edgar Wright documents the influential but never chart-topping pop-rock band Sparks.

Directed by Edgar Wright, 'The Sparks Brothers' premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
"How can one rock band be successful, underrated, hugely influential, and criminally overlooked all at the same time? Take a musical odyssey through five weird and wonderful decades with brothers Russell & Ron Mael, celebrating the inspiring legacy of Sparks: your favourite band's favourite band."

Filmmaker Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) takes his first bite out of the documentary format with The Sparks Brothers - and it's a big juicy bite. Telling the story of Ron and Russell Mael, the two halves of rock duo Sparks, Wright covers the five-decade career of the pair. And as well as the brothers themselves, there is a veritable feast of other music and art royalty who pop up as cameos: Bjork, Beck, Neil Gaiman, Mike Myers and Jason Schwartzman just to name a few of the over 80 people Wright spoke to. An electric archival project that pops and crackles - and finally appreciates the underappreciated band to its fullest extent - the film encapsulates 'fun', even if you're not a diehard Sparks fan (prepare to have your mind changed).
