From Luna Cinema's favourite Paull Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia) comes Licorice Pizza, a winning coming-of-age comedy set in 1970s California. Amoungst a fantastic cast (including veterans like Bradley Cooper and brilliant newcomer Cooper Hoffman), Alana Haim is emerging as the woman to watchh, with a dazzling debut  that may take  her  all the way to Oscar gold!

Written and Directed by one of our all-time favourite auteurs, Paul Thomas Anderson, Licorice Pizza tracks the treacherous navigation of first love in 1970s Los Angeles San Fernando Valley - its title referencing a much-loved chain of Southern California record stores that tempted patrons with free licorice, comfy couches and racks of music mags alongside the coolest vinyl releases.

Licorice Pizza is the story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, hanging out, and falling in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973.

PTA has put together an ensemble to rival his previous masterpieces Boogie Nights and Magnolia, with Bradley Cooper, Benny Safdie, Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Maya Rudolph, John C. Reilly and newcomers Cooper Hoffman (son of the late Anderson veteran Philip Seymour Hoffman) in his film debut, starring as Gary Valentine, a young actor falling for Alana Kane (Haim's Alana Haim), and discovering that young love is a tangled time for all.

Licorice Pizza sounds like a stunt food, but it's actually slang for vinyl records... LPs, specifically.

WINNER: Best Screenplay, New York Film Critics Circle.

Big news for Paul Thomas Anderson’s awards campaign as his film Licorice Pizza was named the Best Picture of the year by the National Board of Review. The MGM and United Artists Releasing movie also picked up prizes for Best Director  and shared the Breakthrough Performance award for newcomers Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman.
