A man obsessed with his tasselled designer deerskin jacket. A new lease on life. And a fair bit of murdering.
Deerskin defies easy explanation; director, Quentin Dupiex has created a surrealist black comedy that dances merrily along the line of absurdist film, heading straight for cult status. Jean Dujardin (The Artist) is Georges, our troubled protagonist. Denise (Adele Haenel, Portrait of a Lady On Fire) is a trusting bartender innocently enabling him. Convinced that his new jacket is his salvation and the fix to all his problems, Georges heads further and further into delirium as we witness both the violent undoing of a man, as well as a jacket that- be your leatherwear or not - will stay with the audience beyond the film's end.
"An immaculate, taut portrait of pathetic navel-gazing masculinity." Little White Lies
"Dujardin is the sort of leading man who likes to mix it up, and in "Deerskin" he gives an adventurous downbeat performance that tosses vanity - and sanity - right out the window." Variety
