Formed in 1989, the Bangarra Dance Theatre is one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies.

In Firestarter directors Blair (The Sapphires, Top End Wedding) and Minchin (Matilda and Me, Making Muriel) tell the story of Bangarra via intimate and revealing interviews with performers and especially the core trio of Stephen, Russell and David Page.

Documentation of rehearsals and performances, as well as home movies and archive footage, play alongside newsreel material that contextualises the experiences of the company through the cultural and political landscape of contemporary Australia.

Firestarter offers a remarkable insight into one of the country’s most important performing arts companies.

Directed by Nel Minchin and Wayne Blair

Screening from Feb 12 at  Luna Leederville and Luna on SX
