Celebrate the Spanish Film Festival turning 21 when it returns to Cinema Paradiso from Thursday 26 April to Wednesday 16 May with a specially selected program of films and events.
The festival will kick off with its famous Opening Night Gala where guests can enjoy a glass of Freixenet Cava on arrival before the Australian premiere of the dance-floor comedy THE TRIBE (La Tribu) - Spain's answer to The Fully Monty! - before an after party at Connections Night Club with Torres wine, tasty Spanish food by Pinchos and Spanish tunes from DJ Harvey Rae.
The Spanish Film Festival will also feature Australian premieres of MIST & THE MAIDEN (La niebla y la doncella), a gripping mystery follows a cold case investigation on the Spanish Canary Islands, adapted from Lorenzo Silva’s best-selling novel; ABRACADABRA, an Almodóvar–esque madcap comedy from the maverick director of the Spanish Academy Award (Goya) winning Blancanieves (Snow White 2012) Pablo Berger; the period drama THE CHESS PLAYER (El jugador de ajedrez), Luis Oliveros’s second feature, which follows a chess master who is falsely accused of being a spy and sent to an SS prison; and DYING (Morir), evocative drama from breakout director Fernando Franco – a follow-up to his Goya Award winning debut Wounded.
There will be mid-festival fun with a special event screening of the cathartic comedy NO FILTER starring Maribel Verdú as a woman who can’t help but speak her mind while rounding out the festival will be our special Closing Night presentation of Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro's beloved dark fairy-tale (and fantasy classic) PAN'S LABYRINTH.
The Spanish Film Festival is proudly supported in Perth by The West Australian.
