Synopsis
THE CROSSROADS
SKRZYŻOWANIE
AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE
In the spirit of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s cinema, an intimate drama starring two legends of Polish acting — Jan Englert and Anna Romantowska. Winner of the Young FIPRESCI award at the Warsaw Film Festival, THE CROSSROADS explores the quiet turning points in life — when time slows, and we’re forced to confront moral choices, past regrets, and the reckoning that often arrives too late.
For fifty years, 82-year-old retired doctor Tadeusz had driven daily through that same intersection without a single accident. But one day he is involved in a tragic crash that claims the life of a promising 24-year-old medical student — a devoted husband and soon-to-be father. Experts assess that Tadeusz is not responsible, but this does not silence the heavy burden he feels. The tragedy begins to overwhelm both Tadeusz and his loved ones, while unresolved issues from the past start to surface. As guilt, grief, and public scrutiny mount, Tadeusz makes a series of unexpected decisions, some of which directly affect his family.
