Synopsis

Luna Cinemas is turning the big 3-0, and we’re throwing a birthday bash to remember! Join us at Luna Leederville on Friday, August 8 from 6.00pm for a FREE night of film, food and festivities as we celebrate three decades of cinema, community and culture.

We’re rolling out the red carpet with complimentary pizza* on arrival, live speeches from special guests, and a unique screening experience that takes a walk down memory lane. First up is LUNA, STARRING, a short film that captures the story of our cinema and the people who made it possible. Made by our staff, starring our staff, it has was selected for the 2024 Revelation Film Festival and the 2025 St. Kilda Film Festival! Then, for the main event, a special screening of SHALLOW GRAVE, the very first film ever shown at Luna when we opened our doors in 1994. Danny Boyles' Edinburgh noir debut stars Ewan McGregor, Kerry Fox, and Christopher Eccleston in a pitch-black comic crime caper. A 90s time capsule that big on laughs and thrills, it's the perfect film to cap off our 30th celebrations.

Cinema Club Members will have early access to tickets starting July 18, with remaining seats made available to the general public from July 22 (subject to availability). Entry is free, but seating is limited -- don’t miss your chance to be part of this milestone celebration!

Reviews

★★★★★ Danny Boyle’s Edinburgh noir debut is a triple-crossing treat.
The Guardian
From the moment those electronic beats of Leftield start pounding on the soundtrack and Boyle’s camera begins racing around the cobbled streets of Edinburgh, the film announces itself as a propulsive thrill ride.
The Times (UK)
Fresh score. Danny Boyle's glittering, deadpan, nihilistic little thriller, a nasty Scottish cousin to such amoral specialty films as Pulp Fiction, The Grifters, and The Last Seduction
