Synopsis
Colder than ice, her kiss pierces the heart...
A darkly beautiful reworking of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, The Ice Tower is a richly textured meditation on longing, isolation, and desire.
Runaway teenage orphan Jeanne (Clara Pacini) flees her isolated, mountainous life to the bustling city she’s always dreamed of discovering. Looking to seek refuge, she accidentally enters a film studio that's filming a new adaptation of The Snow Queen. There, she becomes drawn into the orbit of Cristina (Marion Cotillard), the film’s enigmatic and emotionally fragile star. But as the two form a bond, a mutual and sinister fascination takes hold.
Lucile Hadžihalilović crafts a dark, bewitching psychological thriller, where cinema itself becomes a realm of seduction and danger. A chilling coming-of-age story, THE ICE TOWER explores obsession, power, and the fragile line between enchantment and sacrifice.

Reviews
A hypnotic, visually stunning reimagining of a classic tale—enigmatic, haunting, and driven by two mesmerizing performances.
Dusted with magic — and more than a little malevolence — this is one of those films you want sink into on a cold winter’s night.
★★★★★ Like all of Hadžihalilović’s mature films, The Ice Tower prioritises meticulously composed, mystically charged images over exposition, conjuring the painterliness of great silent cinema.
This is a seductive hinterland of dark and projected desires, and mostly, of viewing from the darkness.
