Synopsis

Winner of the NEXT Innovator Award at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, heartwarming comedy The Incomer follows reclusive siblings Sandy (Grant O’Rourke, Outlander) and Isla (Gayle Rankin, GLOW) and the hilarious lengths they will employ to defend their breathtaking remote Scottish isle home from dreaded “incomers”.

One day, Daniel (Domhnall Gleeson, About Time), an awkward and socially inept council official arrives to evacuate the siblings. Bringing with him the strange mainland ways of laws, paperwork, veganism and internet wizardry, he turns their world upside down. As long-held beliefs begin to crumble, each of them must confront the truth, embrace change, and dare to imagine a life beyond the island while fighting to preserve the heritage they have sworn to defend.

Vibrant, heartfelt and wonderfully weird, The Incomer is a genre-defying fairytale that perfectly melds themes of love and loss with those of betrayal and beginnings, as writer-director Louis Paxton beautifully explores the delightfully strange dance that is human connection.
