Synopsis

Watch your step - and your neighbours - this Hitchcock double feature of obsession and intrigue is a thrill from start to finish.

VERTIGO (1958) | PG

Retired San Francisco detective John "Scottie" Ferguson (James Stewart) is hired by an old college acquaintance, Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore), to follow his wife, Madeleine (Kim Novak), who he believes is possessed by a spirit. As Scottie becomes increasingly obsessed with Madeleine, he uncovers a complex web of deception and manipulation that leads to a shocking revelation. Trapped in a vortex of desire and deception, Scottie's grip on reality begins to unravel as he becomes ensnared in a haunting mystery that challenges his perceptions of love, identity, and mortality.

15 minute intermission.

REAR WINDOW (1954) | PG

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the film follows photographer L.B. "Jeff" Jefferies (James Stewart) who finds himself confined to his apartment with a broken leg during a sweltering summer heatwave. With nothing to do but observe his neighbours from his rear window, Jeff becomes fixated on the lives of those who live across the courtyard of his apartment block. As he becomes increasingly engrossed in their daily routines, Jeff begins to suspect that one of his neighbours, Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr), has committed a murder. With the help of his girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly) and his nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter), Jeff sets out to uncover the truth, risking his own life in the process.
