Synopsis
Australian premiere
Día de caza
Inspired by Carlos Saura’s award-winning classic The Hunt (1966), this new film from Pedro Aguilera honours the legacy of the original and delivers a fiercely modern vision exploring cycles of betrayal, corruption, and abuse of power in Spanish society.
Starring three legendary figures of Spanish cinema, the award-winning actresses Blanca Portillo (Maixabel, Volver), Carmen Machi (Spanish Affair, Aída) and Rossy de Palma (Broken Embraces, Kika) deliver captivating tour de force performances.
Rosa, Blanca, and Carmen, three middle-aged friends, reunite after a long time without seeing each other to go hunting rabbits at Blanca’s country house and reserve near Madrid, along with Rosa’s taciturn teenage niece, Diana.
As the hot day unfolds, amidst laughter and sharing secrets, issues in their lives come to the surface: divorce, children, money problems, infidelities, alcohol, and professional ambitions. The stifling heat and memories of the past result in old tensions rising and their reunion slowly simmers, until the women finally face each other.

Reviews
Works as a humorous yet scathing portrait of a section of society that rejects equality.
