Synopsis
Chinatown (1974) is a sun-drenched neo-noir mystery in which private investigator J.J. “Jake” Gittes is hired to expose an affair, only to uncover a labyrinth of corruption, power, and violence buried beneath 1930s Los Angeles. What begins as a routine infidelity case spirals out of control into a devastating conspiracy tied to land, water, and wealth.
Starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, the film is a defining work of the New Hollywood era and stands as one of cinema’s great revisionist detective stories: a whodunnit where the deeper the investigation goes, the less justice seems possible.
